Fitting TV around rosters and camp Wi-Fi

FIFO life splits your viewing between home and site, and the connections at each are very different. At home, set up as usual on your NBN line. On site, camp Wi-Fi is shared by many workers after shifts, so plan for slower evenings and use a phone or tablet that can switch to mobile data if coverage exists.

Before you fly out, confirm how many connections your plan allows, because watching on site while family streams at home counts as two. Keep your login on a device you control rather than a shared mess-room TV, and sign out if you ever log in elsewhere. A lower stream quality setting makes camp networks more bearable.

Rosters also make long-term plans less predictable. If you are away two weeks out of three, compare a longer term against shorter ones based on when the household actually watches. Note the support hours, too, in case something breaks while you are on a night shift in another time zone.
